Who We Are and What We Do
​
I, Samantha Cooper-Ladewig, and my wife Jessica Ladewig currently live in Calhan, Colorado with 5 pet dogs, 4 indoor cats, and a single ferret in his senior years. Jessica works from home and is in school to do UI/UX, while I currently work part-time at a dog rescue. Our goal is to eventually have me working on the farm full-time, hopefully in early 2023. We love our animals and have both worked for over 2 years each in dog care. But, we have since found our passions and are loving the farm life.

We started with our first goats in early-mid 2020 with our three unregistered Nigerian Dwarf does Star, Poppy, and Magic, and our two unregistered Nigerian Pygmy bucks Taz and Pyre. The more we learned about goats the more we fell in love with the idea of the show ring and breeding goats for conformation rather than just cute babies (which are always a bonus!) We then created our herd name SorrenStar Ranch and registered it through ADGA.

In 2021, we started bringing in our first registered lines and redid our herd by selling all of our unregistered goats aside from Wicca, daughter of Magic, who is our first doe born and raised on our land.

Our near-future goals involve replacing our bucks with amazing lines in order to start building our new herd on solid foundations. Tentatively, we plan to start showing, getting our goats LA'd, and starting milk testing come 2023. As of Dec. 2021, we put all of our plans on hold so we can get ourselves in a better, financially stable, place before continuing with our ranch goals.

Our long-term plans involve moving to a larger property with a better-built barn although my dad and I put a lot of hard work into our current one. We have been considering adding other kinds of farm animals for eggs and meat, as well as livestock guardians for our goats which may include llamas and dogs. We have also talked about a possibility of getting into standard breeds of goats once we have the proper fencing and space to keep them separate from the dwarves.

How We Chose Our Herd Name
​
We chose our herd name by putting together two names of animals that meant something to us. Sorren was our first puppy we got together after officially moving into our first apartment together. She tragically passed at 11 months old and was a very hard loss for us.
​
Star was one of our first three Nigerian Dwarf goats, and the first of the three to give birth on our property. She is the sweetest girl and living a great life in her new home with her wether son Ghost, our first buckling born on our property.
